Ford Residence Kitchen

The Ford kitchen was typical in many ways. It was a classic post war Berkeley style kitchen. From the coordinated yellow and grey tile to the typical wooden cabinets.

The home owner, now 92, had to keep the budget affordable. We chose to assemble and install IKEA cabinets. The floor and back splash were coordinated Italian porcelain. We found that the IKEA cabinets worked great for our chosen style and design. In the end we were able to provide a smoother flow, more usable counters, and greater efficiency.

One feature that I now try to incorporate in my designs and remodels, is a near by mop sink. However, rather than using the typical fiberglass laundry sink we use a small but deep bar sink, installed in a regular cabinet, with the same granite counter. We also use a tall faucet so that if you wanted to fill a 5 gallon bucket in the sink you can. I have even used this approach in an adjacent half bath on another project.

Years after the installation and the IKEA cabinets are still looking great and functioning like new.
